How to honor top sales people - without making the others feel unworthy

Know that I love contests - I love to compete and I love to win! My first experience with this was,  when working at a furniture store in Camphill, PA. We were living from paycheck to paycheck and we needed 3 mattress - My husband and I were sleeping on his 20 year old childhood mattress and we were rolling to the center and the kids mattresses were no better. When they announced they were having a sales contest for mattress sales and the high producer won a free mattress - know that I won that contest 3 times! I need them! However what I did not know till afterwards the feeling of the win, I loved it and right then and there I was addicted to that feeling.

Fast forward - I go to work for a brokerage that measures everything - gives out awards,  has celebrations for top producers and yes, I was able to participate as a recipient of the awards - again feeling fine and loving it.

Now I work for a boutique brokerage - who has a very nice piece of the pie in Kent County - but we do not celebrate volume -we celebrate the people within the brokerage -

Having experienced both and looking back on the high pressures to win and succeed - and I now know this is not everyone's goal - to be the top producer, rather to be the producer they want to be - should we celebrate top producers or better yet,  ask everyone what their goal is and celebrate them making their goal?

I wonder how frustrated someone may feel when a company celebrates only high volume - and they are not high volume - see in my career field as a Realtor - you do not have to be high volume to be successful.

I do not want to take from the fun of contests and the awards for high volume, rather add to it and have achievements celebrations for those who have reached their goal - whatever that may be.
